Kaleb's Story

Meet Kaleb and his grandmother Martha. Kaleb, who is 14, has been battling brain cancer for almost two years now and he and Martha need a place to live. A group of people decided to build Kaleb and Martha a small home on their property.

In early October, we were excited to hear that Kaleb would be undergoing his last chemotherapy treatment. Soon his life would go back to normal and post-Covid he would even be able to go back to school after two whole years of homeschooling due to his intensive medical treatments; he was thrilled.

Fast forward to what was supposed to be a final MRI revealed a new tumor in his brain. Kaleb texted two terrible words: “It’s back”. In 14 years this kid has seen more heartbreak and pain than most people do in a lifetime.

When we asked Kaleb what he wanted for Christmas, we thought maybe he would want to go to Disney World or get a new gaming system but his answer surprised us all. He wants to help his grandmother fix up their trailer. With no working oven or dishwasher, a roof that leaks, floors that have water damage, HVAC that isn't working , and a well that needs repairing- these repairs are long overdue. However, his medical treatments and frequent trips to and from Atlanta have taken precedence.

Most recently we sent a contractor out to see what needed to be done and prepare for the project ahead. Unfortunately, black mold was found in the trailer rendering it unable to be repaired. Although It seems like a huge undertaking, we were hoping to raise enough funds to get a new trailer so that it would be a safer (and more comfortable!) place for them to live as he enters this next stage of his fight with cancer.

So this year, please remember Kaleb, who will be starting treatment again in January. His bravery and strength inspire us, and we hope his story will inspire you too.
